About 'A Cowboy's Daughter'

My Background

Barbara Allen, A Cowboy's Daughter, began her exploration of flame working glass over 30 years ago and continues to blend glass and natural materials into sculptures and paintings. In 1997, Allen was selected as one of the national artists to adorn the White House Christmas tree in the Blue Room with an original glass ornament. Everything from her studio is handmade, unique and original.

My Inspiration

My Background

Flame worked glass is the core of my craft. By working with solid rods and tubing of borosilicate glass, adding a high temperature flame generated with a propane and oxygen torch, then assisting gravity with heat and manipulation of melting glass, the sculpture begins to come alive within the flame. This ornate process is accented with hand-built clay sculpture, natural wood, wire, stone, or other found treasures that evolves into an expression, a sublime idea or a slice of Life.

My Inspiration

Spending as much time outside in nature is my greatest inspiration that I bring back to my studio where I can recreate the magic of our natural world.
